DFDV Resumes $SOL Buying as Solana Posts Its Biggest Monthly Gain Since 2024

DeFi Development Corp. buys 19,000 $SOL for $1.86 million as the token gains nearly 50% in August.

Solana treasury company DeFi Development Corp. has resumed its $SOL accumulation strategy, purchasing approximately 19,000 $SOL for $1.86 million at an average price of $98.14.

The acquisition brings DFDV’s treasury to approximately 2.33 million $SOL worth about $182 million. The company said it funded part of the purchase with proceeds from the divestment of its ZeroStack position and plans to hold the newly acquired $SOL as a long-term treasury asset while deploying it through its staking and onchain infrastructure.

The purchase marks DFDV’s first $SOL acquisition since October 16, 2025, when it bought 86,307 $SOL at an average price of $110.91.

Will We See More DAT Activity Soon?

The move comes as $SOL has emerged as the strongest performer among the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap over the past 24 hours, gaining nearly 14%.

$SOL has also climbed almost 50% in August, putting the token on track to print its largest monthly green candle since March 2024.

Before today, Forward Industries was the last DAT to acquire any $SOL, with the largest publicly traded Solana treasury holder purchasing an additional 254,000 $SOL between July 1 and August 3 at an average price of approximately $75. Those purchases lifted its total $SOL holdings to approximately 7.8 million $SOL.

DFDV shares gained more than 16% on Thursday, trading around $5.11 at the time of writing, effectively acting as a beta trade to $SOL. The stock has roughly doubled over the past month, although it remains about 90% below its all-time high reached in May 2025.

Validator Controversy Remains

DeFi Development Corp. resumed purchases as the Solana community votes on 3 major governance proposals.

DFDV publicly backed the proposals and voted in favor across all three proposals.

Solana Foundation Product Engineer Steven Sarmiento praised the participation, calling it “cool” that a Nasdaq-listed corporation had taken part in Solana governance.

Jito Labs CEO and co-founder Lucas Bruder responded that DFDV's participation would be “a lot cooler” if the company stopped “stretching their slots 2x the normal slot time,” referring to allegations surrounding DFDV’s validator operations.

The criticism echoes an earlier dispute involving DFDV’s validator. In February, DFDV appeared among a group of Solana validators accused of running a vote-packing modification that batches 2 slot votes into a single transaction, potentially reducing voting costs but raising concerns about network performance. Parker White, DeFi Development Corp.’s COO and CIO at the time, denied that its validator skipped votes and argued that the company had little incentive to reduce voting costs given the size of its treasury.
