Zenrock Launches Hush Protocol as Solana Privacy Sector Gains Momentum
Hush Protocol brings a yield-bearing privacy layer to Solana DeFi

Onchain privacy is rapidly establishing itself as one of the dominant crypto narratives in 2026. DeFi users are flocking to privacy-preserving applications in record volumes, with leading onchain shielding apps peaking at over $530M in weekly volume in January.
Launched by Zenrock, Hush Protocol’s yield-bearing, quantum-proof shielding layer becomes the newest app to join Solana’s flourishing privacy sector.
How did onchain privacy go from an afterthought to a prevailing meta, and does Hush Protocol actually differentiate itself from rival platforms?
Zenrock Launches ZCash-Inspired Privacy Protocol
Touted as a Zcash-inspired privacy layer on Solana, Zenrock’s Hush Protocol enables DeFi users to shield their onchain transactions from prying eyes. However, Zenrock asserts that Hush Protocol is more than a simple mixer, claiming that its shielded compute layer can theoretically power any Solana app in a fully Turing-complete virtual machine.
Other novel features include a compliant design that includes geo-blocking measures on sanctioned regions, localized client-side proving, and built-in yield on $SOL deposits. Any $SOL deposited into Hush Protocol is automatically converted to $jitoSOL, passively distributing staking yield and MEV to users.
At launch, Hush Protocol offers a simple set of functions, including deposits, transfers, and withdrawals, with further features expected to be implemented in the future.
In an exclusive statement shared with SolanaFloor, Zenrock CEO argues that institutional adoption is the next great catalyst for innovation in Solana’s privacy scene. While Solana-based privacy apps are currently limited to basic transfers, Dave is adamant that the sector is still in its infancy. The Zenrock co-founder anticipates that privacy layers like Hush Protocol will enable the deployment of more powerful DeFi primitives across the shielded economy.
“If you're bullish on institutionalization, you're indirectly bullish on privacy. The onchain economy in 2026 will create a reflexive privacy loop: TradFi products require privacy, privacy adoption strengthens network effects, which enables more sophisticated products. RWAs, DeFi vaults, trading, AI agents - all need a privacy layer. Hush is building that privacy layer on Solana.” - Aditya Dave, Zenrock Co-Founder
Hush Protocol documentation indicates that deposits are free, with transfers costing 0.01 $jitoSOL and a 0.5% fee charged on withdrawals from the shielded pool.
Solana Privacy Sector in Full Swing
Hush Protocol launches off the back of exponential growth and interest in Solana’s privacy sector. Once an afterthought, shielding onchain activity from prying eyes has become top of mind for many network participants, prompting a wealth of new applications on Solana.
Zenrock’s Hush Protocol launch comes just one day after Arcium, an infrastructure provider for many emerging privacy apps, announced its mainnet alpha. Arcium’s launch was punctuated by the beta rollout of Umbra, a rival privacy-preserving DeFi layer leveraging Arcium’s tech stack.
At press time, market leader Privacy Cash still commands the bulk of Solana’s shielded transfer volume. However, while Privacy Cash is steadily gaining traction among users, as evidenced by over $220M in cumulative volume, critics have argued that the app may not be as “private” as once thought.
Meanwhile, certain thought-leaders in Solana have suggested that the supply of privacy apps on Solana might actually exceed demand.
Off the blistering price action of large-cap altcoins like $ZEC and $XMR, one could argue that Solana is witnessing an influx of ‘picks-and-shovels’ sellers with an insufficient supply of users.
Hush Joins Zenrock’s Growing Solana Product Suite
Hush Protocol is far from Zenrock’s first brush with the Solana ecosystem. In 2025, the firm launched a decentralized, wrapped Bitcoin, $zenBTC, which was upgraded to a V2 design in December to accrue yield from Zenrock’s wider product suite.
In October, Zenrock also deployed its wrapped Zcash variant, $zenZEC, on Solana, which is currently held in over 1,200 wallets.
