Crypto Card Payments Volume Hits $17.55B as Crypto’s Favorite Browser Introduces Brave Card

Brave is the latest entrant into the crypto cards market, betting that its established browser audience can help it compete in the growing space.

Crypto payment cards are gaining traction as users increasingly find ways to spend digital assets without waiting for merchants to adopt blockchain payments directly. Cumulative stablecoin card volumes have reached $17.55 billion, and monthly spending has surpassed $1 billion every month since May 2026, according to Paymentscan data.

The appeal lies in simplicity. Crypto cardholders can spend stablecoins at merchants that accept traditional payment networks, with the underlying digital assets converted into local currency during the transaction. This removes the need for merchants to integrate blockchain infrastructure and gives stablecoin holders a more familiar way to spend their assets.

The growth extends across blockchain networks. Solana's monthly stablecoin card spending rose 478% over the past year, climbing from $19.7 million to $113.9 million and reaching a new all-time high in every month except June.

Crypto cards are becoming an increasingly important bridge between onchain assets and real-world commerce. Instead of only trading and holding digital assets, users can put stablecoins to work on everyday purchases.

Brave To Launch Brave Rewards Card

Against this backdrop, Brave is preparing to launch the Brave Rewards Card, bringing its established browser and cryptocurrency rewards ecosystem into the payments market.

Brave's upcoming Rewards Card has surpassed 232,000 waitlist sign-ups, highlighting interest in the browser's plan to bring cryptocurrency rewards to everyday spending. The Brave-branded virtual and physical payment cards allow users in eligible countries to earn Basic Attention Token ($BAT) rewards on purchases. The product will use traditional payment rails, stablecoins, and BravePay, a payment protocol designed to support private transactions.

Users can access the virtual card through Brave Wallet and other major digital wallets, while the physical card supports contactless payments in stores. Brave also plans to offer exclusive discounts, purchase rewards, and other benefits through its Rewards program. Early sign-ups could unlock special launch offers and bonus rewards. Users can join the waitlist at brave.com/card-waitlist.

How Brave Plans to Compete

Brave enters the market with an advantage that many crypto payment startups must build from scratch: an established consumer audience. The browser has more than 53 million daily active users, approximately 5 million of whom have opted into Brave Rewards. Across its broader product ecosystem, Brave reports more than 120 million monthly active users.

That distribution could help Brave introduce crypto payments to people who already use its browser but have little experience with digital assets. Instead of asking consumers to adopt an unfamiliar crypto platform, Brave can integrate payment rewards into a product they already know.

The card also forms part of BAT Roadmap 4.0, which aims to connect browsing, payments, self-custody wallets, and creator monetization in a unified ecosystem. Brave plans to use revenue from products such as Wallet, BravePay, and the card to support $BAT buybacks and user rewards.

Brave

"What we’re building with V4 is the user-first transactional attention economy model that introduces and upholds the self-custody, privacy, and security first principles we build into everything with Brave through a program and features that your neighbors will be able to use and understand. If we succeed in growing this model across our 128 million monthly active users in Brave, we'll have a user-first model that can compete and disrupt the giant incumbents for the billions of addressable users beyond our user base. This is the single greatest opportunity to prove an upgrade for everyone in privacy, and in bringing everyday use for crypto that has never been more possible than it is right now. Brave is the natural fit to take such an opportunity head on." - Luke Mulks, VP Business Operations at Brave

Driving $BAT Demand

Brave's opportunity lies in connecting an established consumer product with practical uses for cryptocurrency. The Brave browser already integrates $BAT rewards, while Brave Wallet supports digital assets and Brave Search provides real-time cryptocurrency prices, charts, and conversion tools for more than 17,000 cryptocurrencies through CoinGecko's API.

Brave Search serves more than 80 million daily queries and 2.4 billion monthly queries, extending the company's crypto-aware product ecosystem beyond the browser's advertising business. According to JTX data, $BAT has gained almost 60% over the past 30 days.

With these new products, Brave aims to turn its existing user base into an active economy where users earn $BAT through everyday browsing, spending, and transactions. By generating revenue from its expanding product suite and directing a portion toward $BAT buybacks and user rewards, the company hopes to strengthen the token's utility and link its value accrual to real product usage.
